The engine of this car represented one of the best designs in its time. With a speed of 3200 /min, it was the first to exceed the number n = 3000; this amounted to an increase of 1000 /min in comparison with the former maximum speed. After its successful participation in the 1914 French GP at Lyon, one of the cars was shipped to England, where it was confiscated by the War Office upon the outbreak of World War I and turned over to Rolls-Royce for study purposes. Its design features had a significant influence on the RR aircraft engine Hawk. Another company which profited from the findings was Bentley. In 1915, a GP 1914 car, driven by Ralph de Palma, won the Indianapolis 500 mile race. In 1924, a GP 1914 engine was equipped with a supercharger and fitted into a 1924 Targa Florio. Otto Salzer dubbed the car "grandmother" and used it in numerous sprint and mountain races. In 1927, the car was taken over by Alfred Rosenberg who raced it successfully until 1930. In 1926, Caracciola won the Semmering race in a GP 1914 which was also equipped with a supercharger.
