1910 – The Holt Manufacturing Company registers "Caterpillar" as a trademark.

1925 – The Holt Manufacturing Company and C. L. Best Tractor Co. are merged to form the Caterpillar Tractor Co. Caterpillar’s first product line consists of five tractors.

1927 – The Model Twenty Track-Type Tractor is the first new product designed by the new company.

1928 – Caterpillar makes its first acquisition purchasing the Russell Grader Manufacturing Company.

Это историческое нововведение началось как эксперимент, на этот раз с использованием краски и цвета. Задача заключалась в том, чтобы определить единый цвет для нашей продукции. Испытания сузились до трех цветов: оттенков желтого, ярко-красного и белого. Цель заключалась в выборе такого цвета, который будет виден на самом большом расстоянии днем и ночью и в то же время будет радовать глаз. После завершения испытаний выбор пал на желтый и специалисты по окраске создали характерный желтый цвет "Caterpillar Yellow", позволяющий безошибочно узнавать наши машины. 7 декабря 1931 года серая краска с красной окантовкой была заменена цветом Hi-Way Yellow с черной окантовкой. Сегодня мы называем цвет окраски наших машин желтым "Caterpillar Yellow".

В 1931 году компания Caterpillar представила свой второй товарный знак. Товарный знак Caterpillar развивался с момента основания торговой марки в 1925 году. Первый товарный знак изначально использовался Holt Manufacturing Company, одной из компаний-предшественниц Caterpillar. Первый товарный знак, ласково названный "Волнистым логотипом", состоял из самого названия компании, написанного в извилистой манере, напоминающей ползущую гусеницу.
