Producing 275 flywheel horsepower from its six-cylinder, 893 cubic-inch, 3406 diesel engine, the 983B featured pedal steering, freeing the operator's hands for the transmission and loader controls. Weighing in at an impressive 78,530 lbs. and equipped with a single-lever power shift transmission, the 983B was capable of top forward speeds of 7 MPH and reverse speeds of up to 8 MPH.

С 1980 года выпускался с двумя выхлопными трубами. В начале 1986 года D10 был заменён моделью D11N.
