In February the Airbus Plant in Bremen installed a massive tank to store hot water from its power plant. The Liebherr LTM 1300-6.2 mobile crane operated by Bremen-based Kranverleih Sommer took charge of the unloading and positioning of the 50-tonne steel tank.

The Airbus design and manufacturing site in Bremen has installed a hot water tank with a volume of around 300 cubic metres to expand the capacity of its heating power plant. Sommer Kranverleih dispatched its latest mobile crane to the aircraft manufacturer in the form of the LTM 1300-6.2.

To make it easier to transport the 22 metre tank was delivered upside down on a low loader. That meant that the hot water tank was first placed on large rollers and then turned into position. The mobile crane then hoisted the tank on to a prepared foundation. When picking up the load the 300-tonne crane was set to the largest radius it required for this job 14 metres.

Sommer took delivery of one of the first models of the new LTM 1300-6.2 in autumn last year. Since then it has used the crane universally. It is just as a setup crane at wind turbine plants, at steel and concrete construction sites and also for job like this at Airbus. The LTM 1300-6.2 has also been configured with a luffing jib on several occasions.

Sommer Kranverleih has also used the extraordinarily long 78 m telescopic boom to erect a construction crane in Hamburg.
