The three-axle, all-wheel-drive truck was the product of another Norwegian company called Øveraasen Maskin, based in Gjøvik, and appeared in 1972. Having seen this machine and recognized its potential, Hatlebakk bought the rights to the design in 1973. Appropriately enough with its Norwegian roots, the truck was called the Viking D15 and it offered a 17-U.S.-ton/15-tonne payload, with 36 of these machines built. The D15 paved the way for future Moxy trucks and was replaced in the lineup in 1975 by the 18-U.S.-ton/16-tonne-capacity D16, followed by the uprated D16B in 1977 and then the D16B Super in 1981, by which time the ADT was out of its infancy.
